Boo!

We cover ourselves up in fancy bits of cloth We brush our teeth and cut the bits of hair we don’t like off We pay real close attention to how we look and smell We’re all such clever monkeys, but mostly you can’t tell We’ve made some smart machines, walked on the moon But still we eat our neighbours and I don’t see that ending soon We may make art and literature but more than that We want to eat and sleep and make babies, like next door’s cat We think we’re pretty smart, a species set apart But when you think about it, let’s be honest… We’re all just awkward animals, we’re all just meat We’re so sophisticated until we can’t get quite enough to eat We’re just conceited mammals, walking on two feet We think we’re pretty special but face it: we’re all just meat We’ve still got war and poverty and daytime TV And still we trash the planet, well that don’t look to smart to me Here comes old homo sapiens, lord of the earth He seems to have no clue what life is really worth Hey mister, why so pleased? Think you’re the bee’s own knees? Take off that shirt and tie, look in the mirror We’re all just awkward animals, we’re all just meat We’re so sophisticated until we can’t get quite enough to eat We’re just conceited mammals, walking on two feet We think we’re pretty special but face it: we’re all just meat We’re all just awkward animals, we’re all just meat We’re all so complicated until we can’t get quite enough to eat We’re just conceited mammals, walking on two feet We think we’re pretty special but face it: we’re all just meat Yeah, yeah, yeah…we’re all just meat

I’m going to hate myself in the morning Like any other day I’ll see that strange, sad man in the mirror He won’t pretend that he likes me And he’ll never say, ‘it’s going to be okay’ This is the face I have to live with There’s not much I can do But at least I’m on the inside, glaring out, scowling round, unlike you But it seems you’re not content with what you see And you’ve decided what my expression should be So let me tell you… It has happened It is happening And if it ever stops it’s going to happen again It did happen It keeps on happening And I’m beginning to think it’ll never end The rocks along the shoreline get worn down by the sea And this grim mask I wear now These wrinkles and lines, these are the signs Of what’s happened to me And if you think that’s going to change, you’re wrong Are you waiting for a dance and a cheery song? (You’re a miserable git What’s wrong with you? What’s the matter? Just shut up and dance you fool)

I wrote a song in the key of Z Cause I can’t sleep with you inside my head I wrote a song and I played the drums I play faster when I see you come I wrote a song in the key of G It’s only got two words Just you and me I wrote a song in the key of U It’s long and beautiful It’s just like you I wrote a song in the key of Y Because I hear you when I make you sigh I wrote another song And I’m mystified I tried to make you smile It made you cry I wrote the words and I sang them out I had to tell you that I have no doubts Yeah, I wrote the words and I sang them out Just had to tell you that I have no doubts I wrote a song in the key of C All of the things you do to me I wrote a song in the key of A To tell you all the things My lips won’t say

After the rain the glittering streets Shop signs and street lights and her shining eyes Moonlight in puddles all around our feet Electricity and starry skies Fragments, glimpses Are all that remain Slipping, dripping away Like a handful of rain High on a hillside walking long ago Pine trees, olives, lemons, salty air The Mediterranean rolling far below I knew that I would ask her then and there I cannot count the cost My losses mount each day The things I value most They all just drain away A forest where we walked in early spring A shingle beach, a boiling restless sea These are the memories to which I cling These are the things of actual worth to me
5.
Look at the stars You can almost see through the fog and filth to where they are The moon’s on the sea, nearly fifty miles away from you and me There’s little here for us and so you want to go You’re not listening to me and the right words don’t come easily Here I go, all round the houses When I just want to go home with you Here I go, all round the houses When I just want to go home with you Why can’t it be? Why don’t you come all round the houses with me? We don’t need the stars We don’t need the moon We’ve been okay so far Cause all I want to do is be with you We’ll go all around these ugly streets, this ugly town
6.
Another train slides out the station Wailing sirens on the wind Another coach of weary travellers Disappearing round the bend And they don’t know the secret Of the West Hill If they don’t stop and listen They never will At the bar he stands there waiting Always whisky in his hand If you ask him, he will tell you He will help you understand If you don’t know the secret Of the West Hill If you just stop and listen Then you will It’s a secret he no longer wants to keep It’s a secret he must share He’s kept it with him, now it’s time to let it go It’s only fair It’s a story worth repeating It’s a story you must hear There’s a mystery you can solve now If you’ll only lend an ear Then we’ll all know the secret of the West Hill And we’ll all stop and listen And always will

Campfire 03:34
Where do the days go? They just fade away Why must the time fly? Why can’t it stay? You took my hand My heart stood still Take me home and tell me you will Sit by my campfire, again Be my starlight, again Why must the light dim? I can’t let it go Why must it dwindle? This precious glow I nurse embers and Rake through the past Try to rekindle What never could last Fifty million, million, miles, deep in the dark of space Great fiery balls of light Hydrogen and helium a hundred other elements we’ll never know Throughout the endless night Luminous, forever burning, radiating energy Millions of magic spheres Evanescent, incandescent, throwing light across the sky To shine in your tears Sparks dance like fireflies And then disappear Wide eyed and tongue-tied When you are near So please take my hand and Make my heart stand still Take me home and tell me you will Sit by my campfire, again Be my starlight, again

Mmm Hmm 02:36
Everyone is looking at the lights up in the sky mm hm But they can’t see what I see when I look into your eyes mm hm If they could see what I see when they looked into your eyes They’d see the sun They’d see the moon they’d see the stars They’d see the one That I want to be beside mm hm Everyone is silent as the planet comes apart mm hm But they don’t hear what I hear when I listen to your heart mm hm If they could hear what I hear when they listened to your heart They’d hear the birds They’d hear the sea they’d hear the wind They’d hear the chords That won me from the very start mm hm Can you see me Oh can you hear me Oh will you touch me Just one more time x4 Everyone’s escaping to a new home in the sky mm hm But they don’t feel what I feel every time I hold your hand mm hm If they could feel what I feel every time I hold your hand They’d say it’s cold They’d sat it small it’s beautiful They’d say come on They’d say please let me get you warm mm hm

Old Moon 01:59
The stars all shine behind, you old moon Your fate and mine aligned, you old moon As you waltz around my life and drown me with your tides So cast your precious light, you old moon And chase away daylight, you old moon But the face that I can’t see, it hides the truth from me You left me on the shelf, to shine on someone else Don’t set too high a price, please take my sacrifice You old moon You old moon
10.
The clamour starts the minute I wake up I get alarmed and fearful, shaken up Waves of new day crash into my head I wish I could just crawl back into bed The noise, the noise it drills right into me It grinds me down all this cacophony My soul is sore I think my head’s on fire I’m taunted by some weird and tuneless choir Hang on Head down Find calm She’ll come The racket of the streets is agony Does everybody want to punish me? The talking, talking, will they never stop? Would everybody kindly just shut up The city hates me, it’s a pain machine Something’s following me, something mean Something dark I tried to leave behind In the further corners of my mind There is one thing I hold on to She’ll come back, she’ll want to be with me I’ll be whole, the voices will stop She will bring the quiet, set me free The long day closes worse than it began Through my front door falls a beaten man Even then there’s no relief for me The night reverberates with misery

1969 05:09
You’re so far away But this won’t take all day The world is spinning round The planet is spellbound Earth is looking fine 1969 It’s one small step for me into history While long-haired hippy freaks Stay in bed all week The stars are all in line In 1969 I’ll say it once, I’ll say it twice Don’t fuck it up is my advice I call the East, I call the West Don’t fuck it up is my request Shouting in the sky Delta flying by Driving tiny cars Burning your guitar Promise you’ll stay fine 1969 You shot me to the moon But I’ll be back down soon And I’ll shake you by the hand After I crash land Cause ten years go offline In 1969 I’ll say it once, I’ll say it twice Don’t fuck it up is my advice I call the East, I call the West Don’t fuck it up is my request 1969

about

Radio Ghosts' first set of recordings for many millennia, this space-and-time-bothering album may shock and surprise you. Not just because it's called Boo!, which is enough to frighten most people, but because its eleven honed and pummelled songs can in turn make you hum, sway, stomp, whistle and optionally think. Music to manipulate the whole world's hammers, anvils and stirrups.
